WWDC 2025 Recap: The Rise of iOS 26 & Apple Intelligence

Did you miss WWDC 2025? No worries—you’re not alone. This year’s event didn’t just drop new features. Apple reimagined how devices support your workflow with real-world intelligence
baked in.

Here’s what stood out—and why it matters.

A New Look: iOS 26 and Liquid Glass

For the first time, Apple has named its iOS update in line with the calendar year: meet iOS 26. More than just a version number, this release focuses on combining style with substance. The interface now features a design Apple calls Liquid Glass—a sleek, semi-transparent look across buttons, menus, and controls. It’s not just an aesthetic upgrade; this subtle visual shift improves clarity and focus in daily use.

Under the surface, the update adds smart refinements aimed at safety and ease. Parents can now approve new chat initiations and opt in to image blurring, which promotes safer communication for younger users. These tools reflect a growing emphasis on built-in privacy and user control.

Apple Intelligence: AI That Works for You

At the heart of WWDC this year was Apple Intelligence—Apple’s answer to on-device AI that doesn’t compromise user privacy. Built into iOS, iPadOS, and the upcoming macOS Tahoe, it slips seamlessly into your existing workflow.

Here’s what it brings:

  • Smart Summaries: The system can read through your emails, notes, and web articles, delivering concise highlights so you can catch up fast.

  • Writing Tools: AI-assisted writing, right at your fingertips—from suggesting better phrasing to drafting outlines or bullet points.

  • Genmoji and Image Playground: Tell your device what visual you want, and it’ll generate an emoji or stylized image in seconds.

  • Visual Recognition and Live Translation: During FaceTime calls, Apple Intelligence can identify objects in your frame and offer real-time translation, helping far-flung participants feel more connected.

Unlike AI-powered assistants that send data to the cloud, Apple Intelligence performs these tasks locally. When it needs extra muscle, it taps into Private Cloud Compute, designed with encryption and anonymity in mind.

Siri Meets ChatGPT

In perhaps the most unexpected announcement, Apple introduced Siri powered by ChatGPT. You don’t need a separate ChatGPT account to use it. Siri will intelligently ask if you’d like help answering a question or gathering insights—and it does so only with your permission. The experience is frictionless. There’s no new app to learn and no new login to create. Privacy remains front and center, with no personal data retained downstream.

This tight integration makes Siri more helpful. Now, it can generate ideas, refine writing, or surface information quickly, bridging the gap between a typical virtual assistant and a powerful conversational AI.

macOS Tahoe: Your Day, Organized and Efficient

macOS Tahoe brings Apple Intelligence to your Mac with features that enhance productivity:

  • iPhone Mirroring: You can now mirror your iPhone’s screen on your Mac and control it using keyboard and mouse. That makes data entry, testing, or demonstration smooth and seamless.

  • Smart Window Management: Tahoe learns how you multitask—like using certain app pairs—and suggests ideal layouts for them.

  • Inline Summaries and Suggestions: Your Mac can now summarize documents in Notes or draft bullet points for your next email.

  • Contextual App Recommendations: Based on what you’re working on, Tahoe might surface shortcuts or relevant apps to streamline your flow.

These aren’t just productivity tricks—they’re features that genuinely reduce friction by bringing intelligence and context into everyday tasks.

Why This Matters

All of these updates may seem small on their own, but as a whole, they’re quietly transformative.

Instead of making AI feel like a separate product, Apple has woven it into the fabric of how we work and engage with our devices. It’s not about flashy demos, it’s about frictionless integration. With AI now present in writing, note-taking, translation, photo editing, and even Siri, everyday tasks get faster and more intuitive.

Importantly, Apple continues to prioritize privacy and control. All the AI processing happens locally unless further capacity is needed, when it still safeguards your data through Private Cloud Compute.

Brilyant’s Perspective
